From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Equipment problems beset the crew of the space shuttle Discovery as the six astronauts tried to beam climate data back to Earth. Despite the problems, most of the data from experiments was being collected as planned, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration said Discovery’s mission of science and technology research was not in jeopardy. Mission specialist Carl Meade tried unsuccessfully to fix a high-speed data recorder that has not worked since the mission began Friday.
