From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Rep. Mel Reynolds (D-Ill.) pleaded not guilty to a 20-count indictment charging him with having sex with a teen-age campaign worker and then acting to cover up the alleged crime. Reynolds, a 42-year-old married father of three, has insisted that the woman, now 18, is a “liar,” that he has signed affidavits from her recanting the allegations and that the prosecution is racially biased because he is black. Reynolds was running unopposed for a second term in a South Side district until the indictment last month.
