Lawsuit on AT&T-McCaw; to Be Heard: A federal court judge agreed to hear a lawsuit filed by Bell Atlantic Corp. and Nynex Corp. seeking to stop the $12.6-billion merger of AT&T; Corp. and McCaw Cellular Communications Inc., a Bell Atlantic Corp. attorney said. However, lawyers for the companies were working out terms of an agreement that would include a provision permitting the merger to take place as scheduled on Sept. 30 but might impose protective orders on AT&T;’s ownership of McCaw. The trial of the lawsuit, which seeks to block the merger enjoin, is scheduled to start Nov. 1, the Bell Atlantic attorney said.
