Home Sales Ranking: Orange County was the nation’s No. 4 market for home sales in master-planned communities last year, according to a study from the accounting firm Arthur Andersen.

A total of 48 master-planned communities with more than 2,500 acres were tracked in the study. Sales of new housing units totaled 19,077 for 1993. Combined residential home sales at four master-planned communities in Orange County--Rancho Santa Margarita, Aliso Viejo, Mission Viejo and Irvine--came to 2,044 units, or 11% of total nationwide.

Houston had the largest number of master-planned community home sales in the nation, with Las Vegas and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., coming in second and third.
