Benefit Basketball Game Is Scheduled for Oct. 1

The Tiny “Zeus” Lister Jr. celebrity basketball game is scheduled Oct. 1 at Cal State Los Angeles.

The benefit game organized by Lister, 36, a Compton High graduate and former Long Beach City College shotputter, will feature former Laker Magic Johnson, Tommy Ford of the television show “Martin” and actor-director Robert Townsend.

Proceeds will benefit the Cal State L.A. athletic scholarship fund and the West Angeles Church of God in Christ community revitalization project.

Lister is best known as the professional wrestler Zeus, who challenged Hulk Hogan to a wrestling match in the 1989 film “No Holds Barred.”

The 1982 NCAA Division II shotput champion and school record-holder at Cal State L.A., Lister was a regular on HBO’s “1st & Ten” series and co-starred with Mario Van Peebles and Tone Loc in the film “Posse.”
