Don’t expect to find overpriced eateries, miles of parking lots and a friendly recording reminding you that “the white zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers” at Fullerton Municipal Airport.

The 80-acre facility is the oldest and largest general aviation airfield in Orange County to remain at its original location, near Commonwealth and Magnolia avenues. It was officially founded in 1927, but barnstormers and crop dusters used it as far back as 1913 as a makeshift landing strip, according to city records.

Before then, the land was used to raise pigs.

Today It was Rudyard Kipling who said, “And ye take mine honor from me if Ye take away the sea!”

Roberta Carasso will give a free lecture and slide presentation on “Seascapes in Art” at 7:30 p.m. a the Newport Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave.

Carasso, who is director of art talks at Irvine’s studio gallery, will discuss the ways in which artists have portrayed the sea over time and how their environmental consciousness appears in their works. Carasso has written art catalogues for the Museum of Modern Art Library in New York City and the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena.
