Punk Collection? Hear! Hear!

Regarding Mike Boehm’s tremendously definitive, insightful article “A Compilation Should Be Our Next Offspring” (Aug. 18), I certainly hope I speak for the silent majority of many longtime Orange County punk scene warhorses when I say that never (at least in an O.C. daily) has there ever been a more accurate piece done on our genre than this gem.

As a veteran of well over 1,000 punk, roots-rock and blues gigs spanning the last 15 years or so, I feel qualified to say that, for starters, it is very refreshing to know that someone in a position of strength, such as Mike, cares enough to help orchestrate such an evolutionary project as the one he suggested.

I can name at least 10 albums that have given me goosebumps every time I’ve heard ‘em. And Mr. Boehm, they were, amazingly enough, all listed among your “most essential tracks.” I agree, if done correctly, this could be the most happening punk compilation ever done. If not for these pioneers, there most certainly would be no Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, STP et al.

I agree that “Colonel” Jim Guerinot should be the domo behind this punk steering wheel.

Mike, thanks for caring, and keep up the quality work.
