MOORPARK : City Offering Trash Compost Bins for $15
To reduce the amount of trash going from Moorpark to landfills, the city is encouraging residents to let their organic waste rot in easy-to-maintain compost bins.
The city has about 100 bins it is offering them to residents for $15. The bins often cost $99 in stores, according to Jill Rubin Myers, Moorpark’s solid waste coordinator.
Composting yard clippings and food scraps can reduce the trash produced in a year from one household by nearly a third of a ton, Myers said.
The composting bins allow trash to biodegrade with little or no odor into a fertile soil amendment that can be used in the garden or for house plants, Myers said.
The bins will be on sale Oct. 1 at Moorpark Country Days. A free book on composting is included in the offer.
For more information, call Myers at 529-6864, Ext. 248.
