B. Yegorov; Cosmonaut, 1st Doctor in Space
Boris Yegorov, the first doctor in space and one of the first Soviet cosmonauts, has died of a heart attack. He was 57.
Yegorov, a professor of medicine, died Sept. 12 in his Moscow apartment, the ITAR-Tass news agency said.
He was a member of the first space crew that included civilians, on the seventh manned Soviet space flight, Oct. 12-13, 1964.
Awarded the nation’s highest decorations--the gold star of the Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin--Yegorov later headed a variety of medical research institutions.
