COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : Receiver Johnson Ready to Return

Share

USC starting wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson has practiced this week and seems recovered from a two-week-old quadriceps bruise that kept him out of the Penn State game. Coach John Robinson said Johnson should be available for the Baylor game Saturday night at the Coliseum.

However, another wide receiver, Ed Hervey, still is sidelined because of a knee injury and won’t play Saturday.

Tailback Leonard Green, who seemed recovered last week from a hamstring pull, suffered re-injury last Thursday and hasn’t practiced since. Freshman tailback Delon Washington has a groin pull and hasn’t practiced at full speed this week.

The ankle sprain suffered in practice last Wednesday by senior starting defensive end Elic Mahone is more serious than first thought. The sprain is high on the right ankle, a type that often is slow to heal. He probably won’t play against Baylor.

Quarterback Rob Johnson, with a sore lower back, was held out of last week’s workouts but seems fit this week.

Linebacker Donn Cunnigan has a knee injury and won’t play Saturday. Tight end John Allred has a sprained ankle and Robinson isn’t sure if he will play against Baylor.

Little-used Terry Barnum will start at fullback for the Trojans on Saturday, Robinson said Tuesday. A junior from Chatsworth, Barnum was moved from the secondary to offense last spring.
