GARDEN GROVE : 6 New Firefighters Hired by Department
The Fire Department has hired six new firefighters, including a Vietnamese American.
Son Nguyen, 23, the first Vietnamese American to join the 93-man department, began work last week along with the five other recruits, who had completed a two-week training course.
Also hired were Trino Bojorquez, 29, Ivan Carrasco, 33, Alfredo Hernandez, 23, Scott Khulman, 24, and Frederick Niblo, 28.
Fire Chief Vincent F. Bonacker said that hiring more minorities is part of the department’s efforts to meet the needs of a changing, racially diverse community. Three of the new firefighters speak Spanish, and Nguyen speaks Vietnamese, he said.
