GARDEN GROVE : Councilman Rejects Call for Resignation

Share

Councilman Bruce A. Broadwater sat stoically during this week’s City Council meeting as speaker after speaker demanded that he resign.

Mayoral candidate Al Snook led the call for Broadwater’s resignation over an incident this week in which one of Broadwater’s children was accused of taking down Snook’s campaign signs near the Broadwater home on Brookhaven Park. Police are investigating the incident.

“We can’t condone this much longer,” said Snook, who is going up against Broadwater and three other candidates for mayor in the Nov. 8 election. “This is a blemish on the city.”

But while publicly apologizing, Broadwater said he wouldn’t resign and charged that Snook and his supporters are blowing the incident out of proportion.

“This was a political put-on,” he said of the calls for him to resign. “Snook can’t deal with real issues, such as the budget and labor negotiations. He has manufactured an issue, that’s what he has done.”

Police Lt. Stu Finkelstein said Wednesday that the investigation into the incident is being completed.

Vandalizing campaign signs is considered malicious mischief, which is a misdemeanor, Finkelstein said.
