Absolutely Wretched

Surely the designers of the fashions depicted in the Aug. 28 Style section (“Absolutely Fabulous”) were joking. Such plug-ugly outfits I’ve never seen before.

Rubber dresses yet. All that are missing are the fins and face masks.

The model isn’t too swift either. Is that what is meant by the expression bee-stung lips ?

Where are you, Coco Chanel, now that we need you?

Since fashion subscribes to the trickle-down theory, I wonder how these latest designer fantasies will manifest themselves in the mainstream, or if they will appear there at all.

Plastic, rubber, fishnet and stiletto heels seem better suited to the bedroom than the boardroom. Are these designers hinting that that’s where women belong?
