ALGIERS — Security forces Monday killed a Muslim extremist with a $70,000 price on his head, the leader of a faction that has claimed responsibility for slaying 60 foreigners in the last year.
A government communique said Cherif Gousmi, 26, was slain in a gun battle in the Algiers region, but it gave no details. His deputy, Abdessalam Djemaoune, was also killed in the firefight, the state-run news service APS reported.
