Surfrider Gets Forecast Firsthand

The opening of another pizza joint is usually not cause for celebration, let alone the attention of the fashion-focused. But combine the Surfrider Foundation’s 10th anniversary with the opening of the 10th BJ’s Chicago Pizzeria, add in a beachwear fashion show and music from the Surftones--and all the pizza you could eat--and that warrants attention.

What surf gear locals will be slipping into in the coming months swept ashore at the downtown Huntington Beach restaurant last week. The keyword from the collection, shown courtesy of Huntington Surf & Sport: basics. Flannel, brush denim, cotton and thermal fabrics colored in olive, tan, navy, heather gray and black. Only red shot through as a seasonal bright in the drab fall palette.

But in these parts, where the weather never really gets that ugly and shorts are always in, the dark shades may serve as our only indication that summer is, at least officially, over.
