Kudos to the Drivers of MTA’s Buses

Share

I am not arguing with Michelle Williams, who has given up riding the bus (“The End of the Line,” Sept. 12).

But I came three years ago from Phoenix, where public transportation does not exist. I decided to leave my car behind, knowing your congested traffic and your daring drivers.

So I was dependent on the transportation system and for this I will be ever grateful. Certainly there are no more caring, helpful, kind people in this city or any city than the bus drivers of the MTA. They are patient and helpful, and they meet hundreds, perhaps thousands of different people daily. They are unsung and unappreciated heroes.

I cannot count the number of stories I have heard on bus rides. You would not believe the intimate tales that are told to fellow bus travelers and drivers.

Nor will you believe that while waiting for a bus, I met a most unusual woman who has turned out to be one of my best friends in this remarkable city.
