Ameritech to Move Into Multimedia Programming: The regional Bell telephone company said it will make a major push into the field of media and plans to build the business up to 20% of its revenue and profit, from virtually nothing. Responding to the competitive climate in communications, Ameritech Corp. said it will expand from its traditional business in local telephone service and create and distribute a new generation of multimedia programming. Cable television and phone companies are racing to control voice, data and video transmissions into homes and businesses. At the same time, they are forging links in the entertainment industry.
