LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE : Real Estate Developer Clayton Schubert Dies

Funeral services were held Saturday in Irvine for Clayton H. Schubert, a retired insurance businessman who developed a portion of Flintridge during the 1950s. Schubert died Sept. 27 of leukemia. He was 84.

Born in Hancock County, Mo., Schubert studied business administration at UC Berkeley, where he played varsity basketball. He served as an intelligence officer with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

A resident of La Canada Flintridge for 36 years, Schubert developed a 48-lot subdivision extending Flintridge Avenue west of Hampstead Road. Before moving to Irvine in 1978, he was active in schools, community and business groups, and at St. Bede’s Catholic Church.

Schubert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Estelle, of Irvine, son Clayton H. Schubert Jr. and and his wife Margaret of Arcadia and three grandchildren in Arcadia and Sierra Madre. One of 10 children, he also is survived by two sisters and a brother in Oklahoma.
