Love and money: Gustave and Rita Hauser got both with the help of Harvard Law School and on Friday gave $13 million back.

The two met at the school in 1955, got married the day after final exams in the spring of ’56 and went on to make their fortune.

Harvard officials said the donation is the largest cash gift ever given to a law school.

“The school had a unique role in bringing us together,” Hauser said at a ceremony Friday on the steps of a new building to be called Hauser Hall. “But for that, we probably would have never met.”

Gustave Hauser, 65, is a pioneer of cable TV, and helped develop Nickelodeon and the technology used for pay-per-view. He is chairman and chief executive officer of Hauser Communications and used to head the Warner Bros. cable unit, Qube.

Rita Hauser, 60, is president of the couple’s charitable foundation, the Hauser Foundation.

She was a first-year Harvard student and he was a teaching fellow when they met.

Hauser Hall, to be dedicated in April, will house classes and faculty offices.
