President Clinton and Nelson Mandela teamed up in a joint radio address Saturday to urge Americans to invest in South Africa and to hold out that nation’s democratic reforms as an inspiration for people in Haiti.

Using the “miracle of the new South Africa” as an example, Clinton said: “Haitians have a chance to do what South Africans have done--to bring together a country where there have been deep and bloody divisions.

Mandela, winding up a weeklong visit to the United States, said he came away “reinforced that we are poised to build a new and enduring partnership.”
