Toshiba to Introduce Notebook: Irvine-based Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. is scheduled to announce today that it will begin selling a $7,500 notebook computer this fall that is built around an advanced processor chip design from Intel Corp. The machines will be the first to use a version of Intel’s new Pentium processor, which is designed to run on the low voltage required by notebook computers. The lower power means longer battery life and allows the chips to run at cooler temperatures. Other companies have introduced notebook computers using earlier versions of the Pentium chip cooled with fans, which could introduce dust into the computers. Combined with a 772-megabyte hard disk drive, the machine can present video clips on its screen and can analyze spreadsheet data quickly for business presentations and conferences, said Steve Lair, Toshiba’s vice president of marketing.
