EPA Reaches Settlement With Kodak: The Environmental Protection Agency announced that Eastman Kodak will pay an $8-million penalty and sink millions more into environmental efforts at the largest manufacturing facility in the Northeast. EPA officials at a news conference in Manhattan touted the agreement as a model settlement representing how the agency would like to work on remedies with those firms that have damaged the environment. Eastman Kodak’s sprawling 2,200-acre Rochester, N.Y., complex, which makes photographic products, food supplements and other products, employs more than 20,000 people in 400 buildings. During its 104 years at the site, the company failed to keep tight controls on the discharge of hazardous wastes, the EPA said.
