WESTMINSTER : Park Dedicated as Gang Fears Subside
Hoover Park, which residents initially opposed because of fear that it would attract gangs, was dedicated this weekend as the city’s 22nd park.
The one-acre park on Hoover and 21st streets opened during the summer and has attracted families from nearby neighborhoods, allaying fears that it will be a hangout for gang members, officials said.
The “passive” park provides picnic areas, benches, and playground equipment for children.
The park was built on Southern California Edison’s right-of-way along Hoover Street at a cost of $250,000, which was paid for with state park grants and money the city has set aside for parks.
