Don’t expect the next bank heist movie to be filmed at your local branch.

While Los Angeles is considered the bank robbery capital of the United States, neighboring Orange County has far fewer of these crimes.

Bank robbers in Orange County net less than $1 million each year, according to the California Department of Justice.

The number of bank robberies increased substantially from 1990 to 1991 but has declined gradually in the past two years.

Does your child have library-o-phobia?

You might be able to cure it by having your fourth- to sixth-grader attend the “Where in the Library is Carmen SanDiego?” workshop at the Newport Beach Central Library.

Starting at 3:30 p.m., children will learn how to use CD-ROM products, such as the World Book and Dinosaur Encyclopedias. The free sessions will continue the next two Wednesdays.
