BUILDUP IN THE PERSIAN GULF : Probe of Tustin Marine’s Death
U.S. Marine officials are investigating the death of a Tustin-based Marine who apparently drowned last week when he fell off the amphibious assault ship Tripoli, which was speeding toward the Persian Gulf.
Cpl. Steven Mosier, 20, a technician who had been based at the Marine Corps Air Station in Tustin for about a year, fell overboard about 9:45 p.m. Friday, Marine officials said. Divers searched the waters for 24 hours but were unable to recover Mosier’s body.
Mosier apparently fell and struck his head on a landing deck while working on a helicopter, Marine officials said.
Mosier originally was from Winne, Ark.
