COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Women Win in Volleyball

The UC Irvine women’s volleyball team won for the third time in four matches by beating visiting Utah State, 15-13, 15-1, 15-3, in Big West Conference play Wednesday.

Stacy Mitchell had 21 kills and Popi Edwards added 11 for the Anteaters (5-11, 4-5), who beat the Aggies for the second time in as many nights.

Shanna Gappmayer had six kills for Utah State (1-16, 0-8).

In nonconference women’s soccer:

Chapman 4, La Verne 1--Amy Feniello scored three goals and Cindy LeClair added one to lead host Chapman (10-3). Tessa Christensen recorded four saves for the Panthers.

San Diego 1, UC Irvine 0--Dawn Birdsall scored in the 62nd minute to lead host San Diego (6-7). Stephanie Boes had two saves for UCI (6-7-1).
