Skinhead Attack Faked, German Prosecutors Say

POTSDAM, Germany —
German prosecutors said Friday that a woman who said she had been thrown out of a streetcar by skinheads after trying to protect an elderly woman had lied.
The woman, whose tale stunned Germany and prompted police to put up a $13,000 reward for help in finding the skinheads, lied about the attack because she wanted free medical treatment, the prosecutor’s office in Potsdam said.
