Pollution Research and Control Corp., a Glendale-based manufacturer of air pollution measuring instruments, reported a $289,000 loss in the third quarter that ended Sept. 30, after posting a $309,000 profit in the same three-month period a year earlier.

Sales dipped to $913,000 in the latest quarter, down 46% from $1.68 million a year earlier. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, the company reported a loss of $235,000 on revenues of $3.65 million, compared to a year-earlier profit of $885,000 on sales of $4.93 million.

“Competitive price pressures that began in the second quarter of this year caught us by surprise,” said Albert E. Gosselin Jr., chief executive of Pollution Research. “Since July, we have been heavily engaged in a program to reduce overhead.”
