GLENDALE : Police to Hold Free Anti-Crime Expo

What can you do to protect yourself from crime?

The Glendale Police Department plans to answer this and related questions at a free Crime Prevention Expo, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at City Hall. In addition to police, representatives from about 15 local stores that sell home security and other anti-crime merchandise will attend, and there will be demonstrations on self-protection.

“The purpose of this is to let the public know we’re available to help them in such ways as coming to the community to talk about forming Neighborhood Watch groups, or inspecting residences for security,” said Kathy Allen, a community service officer.

Held in connection with California Crime Prevention Month and the first of its kind in the city, the expo will also provide answers to some of the most frequently asked security questions, Allen said. Those questions include how to secure sliding and double-hung windows against intruders.

Businesses scheduled to be on hand for the event include private security companies, home security and car alarm dealers and a cellular phone company.

Students from the International Karate Assn. of Glendale will demonstrate self-defense techniques, organizers said.
