THE GOVERNOR’S RACE

* What Happened Saturday: The campaign of Democrat Kathleen Brown was to be the recipient of an estimated $700,000 raised at a dinner in San Francisco addressed by President Clinton. Wilson met with law enforcement officials in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara to discuss crime.

* What’s Ahead: Brown was scheduled to address the California Teachers Assn. in Burlingame today and to attend an event in Southern California. Wilson had no public events scheduled.

THE SENATE RACE

* What Happened Saturday: Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein joined President Clinton in visiting a school in San Mateo County, where Clinton signed an executive order on implementation of Feinstein’s legislation for the establishment of gun-free schools. Later, Feinstein planned to visit the U.S.-Mexico border and hold a news conference. Republican Rep. Mike Huffington continued his tour of Republican offices throughout Orange County.

* What’s Ahead: Neither Feinstein nor Huffington had public events scheduled today.
