HOT PROPERTY : ‘Brat Packer’ Settles Down
ROB LOWE, who co-stars as the outlaw Jesse James in the upcoming movie “Frank and Jesse” and is due to start filming in January in the starring role in the BBC six-hour miniseries “Pride and Prejudice,” has purchased a Santa Barbara home for about $1.2 million.
Lowe, 30, played a deaf mute in Stephen King’s miniseries “The Stand,” which aired in May. He played a doctor in the PBS production of Tennessee Williams’ “Suddenly Last Summer,” which premiered in January, and a retarded man in the 1987 film “Square Dance,” for which he won a Golden Globe nomination. He was also in “Wayne’s World” (1992).
A member of a group of young Hollywood movie stars labeled the Brat Pack, he co-starred in such movies as “The Outsiders” (1983) and “St. Elmo’s Fire” (1985) before becoming involved in a 1989 video sex scandal, which he had feared might ruin his career.
Earlier this year, he was quoted as saying that he is back on track after a self-destructive period that included heavy drinking. He married makeup artist Sheryl Berkoff in 1991, and they had a son last fall.
The Lowes purchased a Country English-style home in Montecito with four bedrooms and three baths in about 4,500 square feet, Santa Barbara sources say.
ANDREW STEVENS, who appeared in more than two dozen feature films as well as a dozen TV movies, five mini-series and half a dozen TV series (including “Dallas”) before focusing on producing, directing, writing and distributing films, has purchased an Encino home for a bit more than $1 million, sources say.
Stevens, the 38-year-old son of actress Stella Stevens, was the star and creator of the “Night Eyes” video series, and he directed “Grid Runners” and “The Skateboard Kid” as well as the upcoming “Skateboard Kid II.” He was also involved in producing these films.
Stevens and his fiance, Robyn Scott, plan to extensively remodel his new, ranch-style home, making it conform to their more traditional tastes. The 4,600-square-foot home, on about an acre with a pool and tennis court, is between several giant oak trees in the heavily wooded Royal Oak Hills area of Encino.
Mary Berry and John Yardum of Jon Douglas Co.’s Bel-Air office represented Stevens in buying the home, which was originally listed, a year ago, at just under $1.7 million. Don Underwood and Harriet Cameron of Fred Sands, Sherman Oaks, represented the sellers.
MICHAEL DINNER, who directed the February TV movie “Rise and Walk: The Dennis Byrd Story” (about the New York Jets player who broke his neck) and was co-executive producer and director of many episodes of the Emmy Award-winning series “The Wonder Years,” has put his four-bedroom home in Mandeville Canyon on the market at $650,000.
He is planning to move to a larger home in Bel-Air, because he got married, sources say.
Dinner has owned the 2,200-square-foot Brentwood home, which looks like a big treehouse, for the past three years. The house was built in 1963.

The Calabasas house that JOSE and KITTY MENENDEZ were building when they were murdered in their Beverly Hills home in 1989 has closed escrow.
It was not overbid in court, and the couple who bid slightly more than $1.3 million before the September probate hearing are now the new owners, said the attorney who handled the sale.
The last asking price for the 8,000-square-foot mansion, on 14 acres, was $1,925,000, according to the attorney, Stephen Goldberg of Spierer & Woodward, Redondo Beach.
The home was originally listed for sale, three years ago, at more than $3 million, another source has said.
Developers of the 230-acre Brentwood Country Estates, owned by hotelier BARRON HILTON and his family, have sold their first lot in the gated Mandeville Canyon project, which opened sales two years ago in the $2-million range.
The Hiltons also plan to use two of the 14 home sites in their project to build, “on spec,” two 7,000-square-foot houses, each of which will be priced in the $4-million range, said Rodrigo Iglesios of Rodeo Realty, who is handling sales with Rick Hilton of Hilton & Hyland, Beverly Hills. The buyer of the lot has been described as a banker from Mexico.
