UCLA Wins Grant for Housing Plan

Share

The federal government has awarded UCLA a $549,000 grant to develop a plan for eliminating slumlords and increasing the quality of affordable housing in three areas of Los Angeles.

The money, which will be made available by the Department of Housing and Urban Development over two years, also will fund a study of how to increase residents’ borrowing power in the targeted areas: Pico-Union, Vernon Central and the Alameda Corridor.

The UCLA plan also will address environmental health issues, creation and expansion of community credit unions and development of a building materials recycling program.
