Janex International Inc., a Woodland Hills toy maker formerly named With Design In Mind International Inc., continued to recover from past troubles with a $1.06-million third-quarter profit on net sales of $6.46 million.

In the quarter that ended Sept. 30 a year earlier, Janex lost $752,135 on $200,572 in net sales.

In the latest nine-month period, Janex earned $1.08 million, in contrast to a loss of $1.74 million a year before. Its net sales grew to $11.6 million from $474,315.

Janex’s earlier problems included the ouster about two years ago of its two top executives, who pleaded guilty to fraud for siphoning more than $1 million in company funds. Janex also suffered from an unsuccessful attempt to market licensed three-dimensional imaging technology, which it has since abandoned.

The company attributed its latest quarter’s results to sales of products based on the popular Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television characters and the “Lion King” movie. It also cited improvements in its marketing and distribution system.
