Ziffs Sell Database, Trade Show Units: The family sold two assets of the former Ziff-Davis Publishing Co.--its database and trade show operations--for about $667 million. The deals follow Thursday’s sale of the core properties of Ziff-Davis Publishing, its computer magazine and market research firms, for $1.4 billion. The three sons of Bill Ziff Jr., who built the magazine empire into a dominant force in computer marketing, decided in June to sell the properties and use the proceeds for an investment firm. Thomson Corp., a Canadian media company, bought Information Access Co., which provides a database of more than 6,400 publications to libraries, for $465 million. Softbank Corp., a Japanese software distributor and computer publisher, bought ZD Expos for $202 million.
