ISLAMIC BUILDING: At its annual fund-raising banquet tonight, the Islamic Center of Northridge will report that wood framing and walls began going up last month for a $2.5-million Muslim worship complex in Granada Hills that is expected to be ready by the end of 1995.

The new Islamic center will have a 400-person-capacity prayer hall, 12 classrooms, library, offices and social hall as well as parking for 200 cars. Officials broke ground for the center one year ago.

Speakers for the banquet, which begins at 6 p.m., at the Sheraton Universal Hotel are Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a mosque leader in Brooklyn, N.Y., and the first Muslim to deliver prayers before Congress, and Misbah El Dereiny, administrator of Omar Ibn al-Khetab Mosque in Los Angeles.

Tickets are $100 for adults and $50 for children, said spokesman Hasan Mulla. For information, call 363-1132.

ONE MOODY RESIGNS: The Rev. Patrick Moody, 41, will leave the ministerial staff of Shepherd of the Hills Church, where his father, Jess, is pastor, to accept the pastorate next month of the First Baptist Church of Del Cerro in La Mesa.

The elder Moody, 69, who said he has no plans to retire, will lose the services not only of Patrick, who was co-pastor of the 7,000-member congregation, but also of Amy Moody, the church’s music and choir director.

Both congregations are aligned with the Southern Baptist Convention.

JEWISH SINGER: Sol Zim, a popular Jewish composer, recording artist and cantor from New York, will perform tonight and Sunday night at San Fernando Valley synagogues.

Zim, backed at times by a 140-voice youth choir, will sing Israeli, Hasidic and Yiddish songs as well as Broadway and cantorial selections at 7:30 tonight at Temple Ramat Zion in Northridge and 7 p.m. Sunday at Burbank Temple Emanu El.

Zim’s concerts resemble a “Jewish revival” because the artist encourages audience participation, a representative said. Tickets are available at varying prices from Temple Ramat Zion (818) 360-1881, or Burbank Temple Emanu El (818) 845-1734.

QUAKE FUND-RAISER: First Presbyterian Church of North Hollywood, whose main sanctuary was demolished last month because of irreparable earthquake damage, will stage a variety show featuring Hollywood and local talent Sunday night at the church’s Caldwell Hall.

The two-hour production, starting at 7 p.m., includes actress Liz Torres, co-star of NBC’s “The John Larroquette Show;” magician Tony MacLaren and comic Sherrie Shepard.

Admissions to the fund-raising event at 5000 Colfax Ave. are $10 each, $15 for couples and $25 for families. The congregation needs funds to renovate remaining facilities and meet other costs.
