GM Pickups: Much Ado About Nothing

“Government Takes Aim at GM Pickups” (Oct. 18) is a further demonstration of the Clinton Administration’s endless ability to waste energy (taxpayers’ dollars) on minuscule problems. In Transportation Secretary Federico Pena’s current attack on side-mounted gas tanks on GMC pickups, his stated numbers are 15 years and 150 deaths. That averages out to perhaps 10 deaths per year.

Since 50,000 people die in traffic accidents every year, Secretary Pena, how about taking a somewhat larger bite of the apple?
