GLENDALE : Concert to Feature Thanksgiving Hymns

Share

Before the season of Christmas carols gets under way, Glendale Presbyterian Church will host a free concert featuring traditional Thanksgiving hymns performed by a 40-voice choir and brass ensemble.

“The Old 100th Psalm,” “An Anthem for Thanksgiving” and “Fanfare for the Common Man” are among the selections to be performed at the seventh annual “Celebration of Thanksgiving.” Featured will be the Cambridge Singers, a choir that performs a wide range of musical styles but specializes in the music of Russia and Eastern Europe.

The performance will be conducted by Alexander Ruggieri, the choir’s musical director since its inception in 1983. Ruggieri, also choir director for the First Presbyterian Church of Newhall and an expert in Russian sacred music, will highlight the concert with a combined performance of the choir, brass ensemble and the congregation in the Thanksgiving hymn, “We Gather Together.”
