LORD ALMIGHTY: Traci Lords has gained a measure of respect in her post-porn acting career, with credits ranging from John Waters’ “Cry Baby” to a five-show role on “Melrose Place” starting in January. Now she’s seeking respect in music--but not with the standard pop fare such non-music celebrities usually tackle in crossover attempts.

Instead, Traci does techno.

Lords got hooked on the thumping techno-dance sound when she attended her first all-night rave in London about four years ago. She signed with the MCA-distributed Radioactive label and has cut a 10-track dance album with studio help from the likes of Jesus Jones’ Mike Edwards and Ben Watkins of the KLF. The album is due in January and Lords will host the big “Millennium” rave on Nov. 26 at the Long Beach Exhibition Hall.

“It’s not about money for me,” says Lords, 24, about why she chose to make her music debut in a genre that hasn’t had much mainstream U.S. success. “There were a lot of people who wanted to take me and package me as the next little pop princess or rock girl. But it started (at the rave) in London with me and it never left me.”
