PerfectData Reports Turnaround in Earnings

PerfectData Corp., the Simi Valley maker of computer maintenance products, reported a turnaround for the fiscal second quarter that ended Sept. 30. Earnings for the quarter were $182,000, compared with a loss of $102,000 the previous year. Sales for the quarter were $2.19 million, up 25% from $1.74 million the same period last year.

For the six months, earnings were $297,000, compared with a loss of $156,000 a year earlier. Sales for the six months were $3.96 million, up from $3.33 million last year.

The company attributed the change to its decision in May to get out of the business of selling computer modems and cables, and focus exclusively on cleaning and maintenance products for offices. The company has also hired additional sales representatives.
