A Surprising Term

I would like to draw your attention to Howard Rosenberg’s review of “Scarlett,” (“Frankly, ‘Scarlett,’ I Had a Ball,” Nov. 11).

I was astonished and offended to note that Rosenberg referred to Irish people as “potatoheads.”

This demeaning racial term is doubly offensive because of its reference to the Great Famine of 1847-49, during which the population of Ireland was halved from 8 million to 4 million.

I can only hope it was ignorance on Rosenberg’s part and not intentional. Still, ignorance is no excuse, as they say in court.
