Poorman: Out With a Flash

KDOC Channel 56 has stripped Jim (Poorman) Trenton of his teen-advice show after Trenton did the same on the air Wednesday night.

Trenton said he doffed his clothes during his midnight “Love Channel” call-in show as a last-ditch effort to save the program, which was scheduled to end following Friday’s show anyway because he could no longer afford to lease the air time.

“I figured I’d get some needed attention,” Trenton said in a statement. After four months on the air, he was unable to generate roughly $75,000 a month in advertising revenues to support the five-night-a-week show, his publicist said.

“We did a lot of good on the show, and this is the way I’m repaid,” he said. “Besides, the camera never showed (frontal) nudity; when it went below my waist, I had a baseball cap on my lap.”

Network One, which on Nov. 1 began syndicating “The Love Channel” in New York, Washington D.C., San Diego and several other cities, has enough first-run episodes to continue airing it through Dec. 22, a programmer at the Woodland Hills outlet said Friday.

Meanwhile, the Poorman, who previously was suspended in a contract dispute by radio station KROQ-FM (106.7) from his love-and-sex advice show “Loveline,” is seeking another television station from which to broadcast “The Love Channel,” his publicist said.
