Jake Dengel; Character Actor on Stage, Screen and TV

Jake Dengel, 61, sad-eyed, slight but spry character actor popular on stage, screen and television. Dengel’s last public performance was opposite Judd Hirsch in the two-man “Conversations With My Father” at the Doolittle Theater. On Broadway, he appeared in “The Changing Room” and “Royal Hunt of the Sun” and in more than 100 productions for Joseph’s Papp’s Public Theater, Circle Rep and the Ensemble Studio Theater. His films included “Ragtime,” “Ironweed” and “Something Wicked This Way Comes.” His television credits included “L.A. Law,” “Hill Street Blues,” “Cagney and Lacey” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Dengel’s career began immediately after his graduation from Northwestern University when Sir John Gielgud chose him to play Puck in the Ontario Shakespeare Festival’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” On Monday in Sherman Oaks of cancer.
