Protecting Canyon

Share

As both a hunter and a conservationist, I read with interest your Orange County Perspective, “A Calm Space Faces the Shotgun” (Oct. 14). By designating Coal Canyon an ecological reserve the state Fish and Game Commission is not telling hunters to “come and get it.” Use of this area does not create rivalry. Hunters, hikers and nature study groups coexist in many areas. Coal Canyon is an example of this.

Designating the area as an ecological reserve would only ensure protection from a more ominous threat, urban development.
