TUSTIN : Family Night Seeks to Make Math Fun

Share

How’s this for family fun? Math.

Scott Singer, a fourth-grade teacher at Marjorie Veeh Elementary School, says that it’s possible, even for parents who hated math while they were students.

With the help of another fourth-grade teacher, Mike Roth, Singer is coordinating a family math night at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the school’s multipurpose room.

“We’ll have game-like activities that involve counting, multiplying, talking about strategies and learning about algebra and geometry,” Singer said.

The program is designed to get parents involved in improving the math and computation skills of their children. The activities could be done by the family at home, he said.

Singer said schools that offer family math workshops have found that their students are enjoying math and spending more time on their homework.

About 30 families are expected to attend the event. Child care will be provided. For more information, call (714) 730-7544.
