Heidi Fleiss’ attorneys called an undercover police officer to the stand Monday as they launched a defense focusing on entrapment.

Attorney Anthony Brooklier also showed jurors a surveillance videotape made as part of an undercover operation that led to the indictment of the alleged Hollywood madam. Part of the tape was shown in the prosecution case.

Undercover officer Sammy Lee is shown on the video with Samantha Burdette, a prostitute who has testified that she was sent to Lee’s hotel suite by Fleiss. She said she was to give 40% of her $1,500 sex fee to Fleiss.

“This whole thing was a setup, correct?” Brooklier asked Lee about the June 8, 1993, sting.

“Correct,” Lee said.

“It was all arranged with the people in the next room?” Brooklier asked, referring to the operatives assisting Lee in the sting.

“Correct,” Lee said.

Later, Brooklier asked Lee why he needed to hide a video camera in the bedroom, where Burdette disrobed after Lee asked her to remove her clothes.

“Any time you have a vice operation,” Lee said, “the videotape is good both as evidence and regarding the conduct of the officer.”

Deputy Dist. Atty. Alan Carter called four witnesses, including Lee, in his prosecution case. Carter rested his case Friday.

Fleiss is charged with five counts of pandering for procuring four women for prostitution. In addition to Burdette’s June 8 visit to Lee’s hotel suite, Fleiss was charged with sending Burdette and three other women the next evening. They were sent to have sex with three Asian “businessmen” who were actually police officers.
