WASHINGTON : Zedillo Meets Clinton

Share

Mexican President-elect Ernesto Zedillo will meet Wednesday with President Clinton during the final stop on a pre-inauguration tour of the Americas.

The two are expected to discuss law-enforcement reform and the recurring U.S.-Mexico subjects of immigration and trade. On the agenda is expected to be Proposition 187, adopted by California voters, which the government in Mexico City sees as a move against its country, the third-largest U.S. export market and Washington’s partner in the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Zedillo visited Central America earlier this month and will meet today with Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien in Ottawa. Zedillo takes office Dec. 1, succeeding Carlos Salinas de Gortari.
