Fugitive Author Visits France

PARIS —
With hundreds of police protecting her like a head of state, Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasrin arrived in France on Wednesday in a challenge to Islamic fundamentalists who have called for her death.
Security was unusually tight at Charles de Gaulle Airport as Nasrin arrived for her 10-day visit.
Nasrin, 32, a doctor and novelist, fled to Sweden in August while facing charges of offending religious sensibilities in Bangladesh. Prosecutors have demanded a two-year jail sentence.
