T-Shirts Draw Suspensions: More than 1,000 Bell Atlantic Corp. workers were suspended for Thanksgiving Day after they wore T-shirts depicting themselves as “road kills” on the information superhighway. The suspensions, coupled with pay lost when the workers were sent home Wednesday afternoon, comes to about $320 for senior employees. The shirts show a squashed, furry animal labeled “Bell Atlantic Employees.” The company is depicted as a truck. The Philadelphia-based phone company announced in August that it would eliminate 5,600 jobs--7.7% of its work force--to cut costs. Union members claim they will be replaced by non-union workers and subcontractors.
