Hasbro Wins British Game Maker: The Pawtucket, R.I.-based company said it bought the games division of John Waddington, the British maker of the Monopoly board game, for $78 million cash. The deal comes four months after Hasbro Inc. lost out to El Segundo-based Mattel Inc. in a battle to take over JW Spear & Sons, the British company that held the rights to the game Scrabble outside the United States. Hasbro, which already owns the licensing rights to Monopoly, will also acquire the Cluedo and Subbuteo brand names as part of the deal.
