* Robert Minge Brown; Led Stanford Trustees

Robert Minge Brown, 83, former president of the Stanford University Board of Trustees. Born in Mobile, Ala., Brown moved to San Francisco as a child and enrolled at Stanford when he was 15. He was active in college athletics and politics, earning three letters in track and serving as class president and student body president. After graduating from Stanford, he studied at Oxford on a Rhodes scholarship, adding a bachelor of civil law degree. Brown served as Stanford board president from 1971 until 1981. He practiced law in San Francisco as a partner in McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen. On Sunday in Albuquerque, N.M., of heart failure.
